Description: Dating from 1951, Castelnuovo-Tedesco's 23-minute setting of seven Lorca poems breathes the passionate air of flamenco. Each captures a particular picture and the solo instrument is as pictorial as a piano could have been (and more authentic). The Spanish-French Bacarisse plainly was inspired in his 1952 work (at 22 minutes and in four movements, it hardly seems a concertino) by Rodrigo's Aranjuez and its slow movement has a particularly strong Spanish flavor after an opening Intrada whose fanfares look back to Gabrieli and before a short scherzo and final Rondo. Spanish-English texts. Karin Schaupp (guitar), Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra; Benjamin Northey.
