Description: "Delius in Norway" is the title and most of what's here is fairly well-known but two are quite rare. The 25-minute suite of four segments of music from the play "The People's Parliament" dates from 1897; a satirical lampoon of Norwegian politics, it got Delius thrown out of his hotel on the night of its first performance - but not because of the quality of the music! Once recorded on Marco Polo (1993 - long gone), as was On the Mountains, a 14-minute tone-poem from 1889-91 which was Delius' first orchestral work to be performed publicly and which still has major influences from Tchaikovsky and Wagner. Norwegian-English texts. Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra; Andrew Davis.
