Description: Andreae's 34-minute trio from 1908 is a four-movement work of often symphonic proportions, late Romantic in style but with the modern harmonies of Richard Strauss and Wagner and, in a couple of places, even a whiff of Schreker or Korngold. Veress' 13-minute trio of 1963, suggested by three particular paintings, is in turns, melancholy, calm and still and weirdly quitely break-neck virtuosic with a hint of Stravinsky; d'Allesandro's equally long set of Miniatures (1936) tend toward modal harmonies, melodically straightforward but with an enigmatic, gnomic quality about them. Absolut Trio.
