Description: Howells uses the organ like an orchestra in these works spanning most of his career from the Rhapsody of 1918 to the Partita of 1971. There is nothing "churchy" about any of this music from a composer also known for his choral œuvre and the organ is perfectly matched for the repertoire, containing many orchestral colors and originally built in England in 1919 and resident in Wembley Stadium for the 1924 Exhibition, reaching its current home in Dunedin in 1930. Robert Costin (organ of Dunedin Town Hall, New Zealand).
