Description: This collection of attractive little pieces consists of transcriptions for the - let us say, unusual - ensemble, by its members, made with the composers' approval. A good part of the success of the project lies in the appropriateness of the choice of pieces - while it would obviously be surreal and likely doomed to failure to attempt an arrangement of one of Ruders' or Nørgård's formidable symphonies for this group, Ruders' minimalistic little prelude and lively fugue - originally for piano - or the Abrahamsen pieces, both quasi-minimalistic, the one a canonic movement from his large 'Schnee' cycle, work very well as representations of the composers' intentions. In some cases the arrangements are a matter of redistributing material from a different ensemble, as in the Schnee canon; in others, like the intricate Sørensen, originally for accordion, Ruders' Carnival (flutist, also drumming) or Nørgård's sunnily atmospheric Isternia, (cimbalon), the timbres of Alpha imitate and extend the original instrumentation. Alpha (recorder, saxophone and percussion).
