GINO GORINI (1914-1990): Piano Quintet, Cello Sonata, Viola Sonata, 2 studi for Violin and Piano, Pavana for Violin and Piano.
Catalogue Number: 02Q056
Reference: TC 910702
Description: Gorini, a concert pianist and champion of Malipiero, studied under the latter for six years and all of these works here, which date from 1935 to 1946, show evidence of his teacher's straightforward, terse style (his contact with Malipiero came after that composer's early expressionist style moved on) often laced with an expressive lyricism and, in the latest work here, the piano quintet, elements of Casella, Ravel and Prokofiev. Most importantly for you conservatives out there: no trace of the dodecaphonic explorations of Dallapiccola or Togni or, for that matter, later Petrassi. Jessica Oddie, Kumiko Sakamoto (violins), Morgan O'Shaughnessey (viola), Bridget Pasker (cello), Jakkub Tchorzewski (piano).
