Description: Born in the Wallonian part of Belgium, Weitz counted Guilmant, d’Indy and Widor among his teachers. Fleeing the German invasion of 1914, Weitz wound up in London where he remained for the rest of his life (organist for 50 years at a Jesuit church in the city). This is conservative Romaticism in the tradition of Franck, Widor and Vierne and almost everything here is flavored by Gregorian hymns and chants (but the Christmas Rhapsody uses an old Walloon carol and the Fanfare and Gothic March was written for the coronation of George VI in 1937). 2 CDs. Peter Van de Velde (1891 Schyven organ of Our Lady’s Cathedral, Antwerp - CD 1 and 1935 Pels & Zoon organ of Sint-Laurentiuskerk, Antwerp - CD 2)).
