Description: With his star declining in Venice, Vivaldi jumped at the chance to inaugurate the new Teatro Filarmonico in Verona in 1732 and produced a work with some of his most fearsomely difficult, virtuosic and dramatic arias whose technical demands, according to contemporary accounts, severely taxed his singers. He subsequently was the theatre's impresario and produced three more operas there, making of Verona both a come-back and a happy Indian summer of his career. 3 CDs. Italian-English libretto. Sandrine Piau, Verónica Cangemi (sopranos), Marie-Nicole Lemieux (contralto), Lorenzo Regazzo (bass), Ensemble Matheus; Jean-Christophe Spinosi.
