Description: You may know von Schacht from his clarinet concerto recorded by Dieter Klöcker 20 years ago for Orfeo. Well, perhaps not surprisingly, he was a symphonist, and an accomplished one, too. The two half-hour long, four-movement C and E flat symphonies are quite in the style of Haydn which, as the notes point out, is not a surprise since Haydn was popular everywhere by the last quarter fo the 18th century and especially at the composer's court employer at Thurn und Taxis: several manuscript copies of Haydn symphonies were purchased for its archives in 1796. No date is given for these but the shorter (20 min.) con Eco, a bright, open-air affair possibly for a big court event, dates from 1775. von Schacht apparently wrote over 30 symphonies; wonder how long this series will be?
