Description: Rudorff's 1865 conservative, Romantic sextet, half an hour in three movements, begins with a lovely, mellow idyll, follows it with a songlike theme-and-variations and finishes with a stormy allegro molto finale. Of the 36 minutes worth of piano pieces, only the Op. 29 pair from 1880 are virtuosic in nature, the other two sets of pieces (1906 and 1909) lean toward late Brahms, while the nine-minute violin Romanze (1892) wraps lyrical songfulness around a livelier middle section. Berolina Ensemble, Viller Valbonesi (piano).
