Description: “The Last Judgement”, once one of the most famous German oratorios, inspired euphoric headlines everywhere when it was premiered in 1820. Situated between classicism and romanticism, with great choral sequences and richly colored orchestral tone-painting, it juxtaposes Heaven and Hell, Good and Evil and ends with the final Redemption, its personae biblical messengers - Gabriel, Michael, Raphael, Uriel, Satan and Eve. But it couldn’t withstand the onslaught of the Mendelssohn-Schumann generation and soon fell into obscurity until now. 2 CDs. German-English texts. Martina Rüping (soprano), Marie Henriette Reinhold (alto), Patrick Grahl (tenor), Daniel Blumenschein (bass), Gewandhaus Choir, camerata lipsiensis; Gregor Meyer.
