JOSEF SCHELB (1894-1977): Orgelwerke I-V.
Catalogue Number: 06L088
Label: Ars Produktion
Reference: ARS 38 049
Description: Written in 1970 (I) and 1974, these works of Schelb's extreme old age are excellent examples of his transcendence of the necessity of adhering to any school or doctrine. A polyphonic approach prevails but there are lyrical melodies too, especially in slow movements and his adaptations of whatever means seem to offer the best means to expression allow him to offer a twelve-note theme but to provide it with a melodic accompaniment. The outer works are in four-movement, neo-baroque form and the middle three in three-movement form; the cycle is a logical further step in the long tradition of German organ music from the early baroque to the present.
