Description: Saunders' ensemble piece characteristically consists of blocks of intensely colored sonorities, fluid colorful sound-objects, in constant motion. Changes in intensity, represented by timbre and volume, provide the work's sense of motion, rather than conventional musical means of progression. Lanza's Vesperbild incorporates toy instruments and electronics in a sonically adventurous juxtaposition of the expected and the bizarrely cacophonous. Huber's very theatrical piece bears instructions for the musicians that pertain to everyday activities, such as food preparation - to be interpreted and integrated into the performance; recorded crowd sounds and microphones inside instruments add elements of the unexpected to the texture. Zimmermann's work is a film score from 1953-54, a lively collage of jazz, unlikely precursors of experimental rock music, dodecaphony, popular dance and avant-gardism that works far better than it has any business to, and ends up being thoroughly entertaining and approachable. musikFabrik; Peter Rundel, Etienne Siebens, Diego Masson.
