Description: The most original concerto here is Wq 41, written shortly after Bach's move to Hamburg in 1768. Availing himself of the larger orchestral possibilities in his new city, he adds two flutes and two viola parts to the pair of horns and strings which formed the Berlin orchestras of his past and the independent flutes and horns help provide an almost Mozartian accompaniment. Wq 41 is probably an older solo keyboard work "orchestrated" for performance in Hamburg while Wq 31 is a 1753 Berlin piece notable for its operatic recitativo style slow movement. Miklós Spányi (harpsichord, tangent piano), Opus X Ensemble.
