JEAN GILLES (1668-1705): 3 Lamentations, Motet Diligam te Domine.

Description: Those of you who ate up Gilles' Requiem on this label back in January will be pleased to find a brand-new release with three dramatic settings of the Lamentations of Jeremiah which are notable for the intensity of their expressiveness. Based on the grand motet genre, they use four solo singers, a four-part choir and orchestra to winning effect. The motet is hardly less impressive in its connection with its literary text and the music contains an earthquake ingeniously conveyed by vocalizing choir with repeated notes and a rhythmically vehement orchestra. Anne Magouët (soprano), Vincent Lièvre-Picard (countertenor), Bruno Boterf (tenor), Alain Buet (baritone), Chœur de chambre les éléments, Orchestre Les Passions; Jean-Marc Andrieu.
