FRANZ IGNAZ BECK (1734-1809): Symphonies in F, B Flat, G Minor and E Flat, Op. 3/1-4.
Catalogue Number: 07M040
Description: Rediscovered in the early 20th century, Beck is now credited with being the most obvious predecessor of Haydn, Boccherini and Beethoven due to his early use of dual thematic material, motivic working-out and bold harmonic progressions. No one interested in the history of the symphony can afford not to hear Beck. These symphonies appeared on two cpo discs on period instruments in 1996 and 2004. Toronto Chamber Orchestra; Kevin Mallon.
