Description: This release cuts "extended suites" of Estancia and Panambí out of a 1997 Conifer Classics recording which itself was released in full by Naxos in December of 2006 and calls them world premiere recordings. Ollantay, Inca-inspired dance music and the incomplete Popol Vuh was offered in these pages as recently as February (but at full-price on the Neos label: see 02L096 for information on it); the original issuer of these 2001 recordings has not been traced. The nine-minute orchestration of the Danzas Criollas, another attractive, folk-saturated work from the composer's early period, does seem to be a first recording, made in 2006 and, again, it is unknown whether it was previously issued. Gisèle Ben-Dor (conductor).
