GYÖRGY ORBÁN (b.1947): The Razumovsky Trilogy for String Orchestra, Canticle of the Sun and Benedictus from Mass No. 11 for Soprano and String Orchestra.
Catalogue Number: 07M101
Reference: HCD 32624
Description: The three suites of dances, "album leaves" and salon-style, almost "palm-court" style pieces which make up the Trilogy (they number 19 in all) are lushly romantic, utterly conservative, often with a Russian or vaguely "other Eastern European" feel to them which combine to give you 52 minutes of post-romantic music quite in keeping with his third piano sonata (03L104)and Magnificat (05K092) which have appeared recently on multi-composer discs on this label. As are, needless to say, the exquisite 12 minute setting of the Francis of Assisi Canticle and the much shorter Benedictus. Umbrian-English texts. Zsuzsa Alföldi (soprano), Reményi Ede Chamber Orchestra.
