Description: Although the Bohemian Nedbal's operetta career was short and had only one major success (1913's Polenblut), the note-writer here calls attention to his many stylistic traits shared with Léhar, his near exact contemporary. "The Vineyard Bride" dates from 1916, its first two acts (taking up 85 of the music's 100 minutes) set in Croatia, offering Nedbal opportunities to make much use of the kolo folk dance, showing another affinity with Léhar - the interest in Slavic folk color. But there are waltz rhythms and march rhythms as well and this glorification of country life should have been a tonic for a population beginning to get war-weary. 2 CDs. German-English libretto. Bibiana Nwobilo, Mirjam Neururer (sopranos), Wolfgang Müller-Lorenz, Andreas Rainer (tenors), Marcus Niedermeyr (baritone), Schönbrunn Music Theatre Chorus and Orchestra; Herbert Mogg.
