Description: The polytonality of the Japanese mélodies (1918) produced enough hostility in his native Poland that Tansman decided to move to France where the next two sets of songs were written (1927 and 1934). The 6 Songs, to texts by Tansman's current mistress are interestingly neurotic and emotional (i.e. both her poetry and his response) while the 1955 Sonnets (in Polish translation) are the most austere of all.
