ANTON RUBINSTEIN (1829-1894): Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor, Op. 25, Don Quixote, Op. 87.
Catalogue Number: 07S038
Reference: CRC 3462
Description: This series continues with what seems to be the first recording of this concerto since the Banowetz on Marco Polo in 1992. The most traditional of Rubinstein’s five (after all, he was only 21 when he wrote it), it, needless to say, still requires plenty of technique from the soloist. There being no Urtext, this recording uses the Leipzig full score, two different two-piano condensed scores and the available orchestral parts, sources with significant variations from each other. Grigorios Zamparas (piano), Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra; Jon Ceander Mitchell.
