Description: These concertante works display de Pablo's unique idiom, endlessly inventive and terribly difficult to classify. The Chamber Concerto is a reworking of the composer’s First Piano Concerto. Much of the piano writing is surprisingly tonal, creating the impression of a kind of neo-romanticism - but the overall style of the work borrows influences from all over the place, with insistent rhythms overlain with pre-spectralist klangfarbenmelodie; the colors in the ensemble are tumultuous and kaleidoscopic. Eros is an intense conversation between the two protagonists, each calling up sections of the ensemble in support. Many timbral innovations occur within the piece, without recourse to extended techniques. Anatomias is inspired by drawings by Picasso. The viola is given a prominent role, as though emulating the strong lines of the artist's studies, while the varied and original timbres of the ensemble seem to place them in an expressionistic or cubist context. Julio Moguer (piano), Dieter Nel (cello), Marie Teresa Pfiz (viola), Zahir Ensemble; Juan García Rodríguez.
