Description: Schreck's c.1880 sonata is surprisingly, and pleasingly, lyrical with a serene slow movement and joyous finale. The other rarity is the 1999 concerto by Woolfenden (in his own piano reduction) which the composer himself acknowledges is infuenced by Nielsen, Sibelius and, in its slow movement, English folk music. Meyrick Alexander (bassoon), Catherine Milledge (piano).
