Description: World premiere recordings from manuscripts which belonged to Frederick the Great (and done on a copy of a flute made by Quantz for the monarch). Contrary to the notion that Quantz' style never changed, these sonatas, covering a period of over 40 years (late 1720s to 1769), show an ever-evolving progression from baroque through the expressive Empfindsam style to a new Classical lyricism at the end. Mary Oleskiewicz (flute), David Schulenberg (harpsichord), Stephanie Vial (cello).
