Description: The third of the fairly well-known Slovak composer triumvirate of the 20th century, along with Moyzes and Suchon, Cikker is probably the least recorded. After early orchestral works, including two symphonies, he turned to opera for the last period of his life. Most of these piano works are from the 1930s although the longest, the 16-minute set of 15 Aquarelles - his main essay in the Kinderszenen genre - dates from 1962. The 1954 Tatra Brooks are quite post-Debussian in their Impressionism while Slovak folk music is behind many of the other attractive short pieces here. Jordana Palovicová (piano).
