JACQUES IBERT (1890-1962): La Ballade de la Geôle de Reading, 3 Pièces de Ballet (Les Rencontres), Féerique, Chant de Folie (w/Slovak Philharmonic Chorus), Suite Élisabéthaine.
Catalogue Number: 08R055
Format: CD reissue
Description: Mostly early (1921-24) works when Ibert was still influenced by Debussy and Ravel, with some lovely Impressionistic moments in both the Ballade and the three short Rencontres (of which this remains the only recording of the later orchestral version from 1922). The Elizabethan Suite is later (1942), partly made up of adaptations of baroque English pieces by Blow, Bull, Gibbons and Purcell and partly original, putting it into the same category as Pulcinella and Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances. Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra; Adriano. Original 1993 Marco Polo release.
