Description: Well, OK, half of this disc isn't orchestral but the 30-minute overture from around 1740 follows Telemann's stylistic model and is unusual in using a solo recorder which by that time had been out of use in Germany for at least a decade. The Canon (c. 1736) is a contrapuntal fabric of virtuosity approaching that of Bach's Musical Offering while one of the flute sonatas (before 1710) is one of the earliest German works for that instrument while the other (c. 1740) uses it only as an accompanying instrument for the obbligato harpsichord. Nova Stravaganza; Siegbert Rampe (harpsichord).
