JOHANN SIMON MAYR (1763-1845): La Lodoiska.
Catalogue Number: 09N023
Label: Oehms Classics
Reference: OC 954
Description: Mayr's first great success was premiered in Venice in 1796. This revised version, in two acts instead of three, was given in Milan three years later. A "rescue" opera, it was set in Poland with the heroine imprisoned by an evil baron who wants to force her to marry him; she is rescued by her lover and a band of Tartars. The third in Oehms' Mayer series, it will certainly appeal to those who have the first two, even if there is no libretto in English and not even one in the original Italian (it's in German translation only!). 2 CDs. Anna Maria Panzarella (soprano), Elena Belfiore (mezzo), Jeremy Ovenden (tenor), Prague Philharmonic Male Choir, Munich Radio Orchestra; George Petrou.
