KARLHEINZ STOCKHAUSEN (1928-2007): Tierkreis for Organ.
Catalogue Number: 09N095
Reference: WER 6736 2
Description: Versions of this 1975 work (composed originally for music-box) exist on disc for solo piccolo, solo piano, bass clarinet and piano, bassoon and piano and, on another Wergo release from 2003, an ensemble including accordion, bass clarinet, double bass, percussion and trombone. This one uses a specially designed organ which allows a multitude of overtones, allowing the creation of unlimited varieties of sound color. The performer inserts four of his own improvisations after each trio of zodiac signs (amounting to 20 of the 48 minutes on the CD) designed to "reopen the ear" and allow it to resume the zodiac series afresh. Pages of dense explanations of both his improvisations and the way in which he interprets the Stockhausen itself await your delectation. Dominik Susteck (Art Station and Main Organ for New Music, St. Peter's Church, Cologne).
