Description: The only previous recording of this 1934 ballet was on the defunct Argo label in 1994 so it’s good to have it back in the catalogue. The setting is a Chicago courtroom where three different suspects are on trial for a nightclub murder and the score is infused with jazz and popular music, highly rhythmic, brash and loud; you’d never guess it was by Copland if you’d never heard it before.
