Description: Just over 40 minutes of tuneful Romanticism from two Iberian composers we hardly ever hear recorded: Pedrell was the major 19th-century teacher of composers in Spain, including Granados and his two trios are heavily Chopin-Nocturne indebted (Pedrell himself said that he had “Nocturinitis” when he wrote them in 1873), while the Catalonian Malats was a brilliant pianist and close friend of Granados and his 1898 trio is surely one of the great unknown works of Spanish Romanticism although it remains unpublished to this day. Trio Arbós.
