Description: Dating mostly from the late 1920s, Bax's two-piano music includes captivating miniatures (Poisoned Fountain, Hardanger à la Grieg, Red Autumn), an example of his Celtic style (Moy Mell) and the larger-scale sonata whose slow movement captures the seascape of the tone poem The Garden of Fand. Only premiered in 1983, and not included on Chandos' 1988 release of the rest of this music, is the brash, bright and celebratory Festival Overture. This is a transcription of the original 1909 orchestral work which Bax revised in 1918. Ashley Wass, Martin Roscoe (pianos).
