Description: Both these works date from 1757 and show the young Bach already acquiring the personal orchestral style which was to be such a large influence on the language of Classicism. The 42-minute Requiem begins with a short, five-minute Introitus-Kyrie which are composed in strict contrapuntal style over a plainchant cantus firmus, while the half-hour long Sequence is in the emotionally charged, melodic, modern style. The 32-minute Miserere especially shows the almost symphonic compositional texture of Bach's later symphonies and stage works. Lenneke Ruiten (soprano), Ruth Sandhoff (alto), Colin Balzer (tenor), Thomas E. Bauer (bass), RIAS Chamber Choir, Akademie für alte Musik Berlin; Hans-Christoph Rademann.
