Description: Imaginatively modal, the 1927 mass was written under the guidance of Vaughan Williams while the 1943 trio of Psalms features tonal centers rather than keys along with intricate yet delicate string writing and the six Keats settings of 1950's Welcome Joy and Welcome Sorrow, with harp, are attractively sympathetic settings. Holst orchestrated Britten's Op. 30 cantata in 1950 at the composer's request and added a lot of color with winds and percussion in addition to the orchestral strings. Texts included. Choir of Clare College, Cambridge, The Dmitri Ensemble; Graham Ross.
