GEORG PHILIPP TELEMANN (1681-1767): 6 Cantatas (1731).
Catalogue Number: 11L024
Reference: 777 297
Description: Published in 1731 (although probably composed at various periods in the 1720s), these secular cantatas have a somewhat less "moral" quality than his later group of "Moral Cantatas" of 1735-6 whose purpose was instruction in everything which might be summed up as "The Golden Mean". There is still some of that in these pieces, which have a four-part string accompaniment (rather than the later group's continuo-only one) with solo opportunities for flute, recorder and oboe. Their popularity is proved by composers Agricola and Scheibe and scholar Christoph Daniel Eberling (in 1770!) still commenting on their quality and worthiness of study. German-English texts.
