ANTON FERDINAND TITZ (1742-1810): String Quartets for the Imperial Court of St. Petersburg, Vol. 2 - in G, in E Flat, in F and in C.
Catalogue Number: 11L033
Description: Two quartets from Titz' earliest publication (1781 and the first to be composed in Russia) complete the four-work group whose other two works were in the first volume of this series. They are early Viennese in style while the examples from the middle group (publ. 1802) use sonata form in their first movements and exhibit a more rigorous construction. Now, we have the first quartet from Titz' last publication of 1808 which lasts almost 25 minutes and which has elements of Russian folk music or echoes of folk-music style throughout. Hoffmeister Quartet.
