Description: This collection of mostly unknown (eight world premieres) music for male choir revolves around Leipzig. All seven composers were from there and wrote these songs there and the exquisite booklet includes 17 pages of notes in each language, photos and half-tones of contemporary art, letters and newspaper excerpts having to do specifically with these works and their composers. The packaging itself is unique - it opens like a contemporary letter (i.e. in four directions at once, like a flower blooming). Collectors of Romantic male choir repertoire will be enraptured but the scholarship and the stories of intersecting lives and evocations of a city and a period are equally enthralling. German-English texts. Amarcord.
