Description: First new recording of the late sonata from 1911 (only published in 1948), a relaxed and lyrical side of the composer not often encountered. Monothematic and polyphonic throughout, it is a tribute to Taneyev's ingenious inventiveness in motivic work and counterpoint while being delightful to the ear. Of the rarely heard piano pieces, only the Prelude and Fugue is late (1910); the remainder of the pieces here, including six first recordings, are youthful pieces from 1873-80. Ivan Peshkov (violin), Olga Solovieva (piano).
