PIETRO ANTONIO CESTI (1623-1669): La Dori.
Catalogue Number: 11W012
Description: Cesti was one of the most outstanding champions of 17th-century Venetian opera, and the 1657 La Dori was both his greatest success and a major influence on the genre in the expressiveness of its arias and duets. The story is set in Babylon on the shores of the Euphrates, and is a convoluted and richly tragicomedic tale of lost lovers, disguises and mistaken identities filled with larger-than-life and colorfully costumed characters. This revival, filmed at last year’s Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, was acclaimed as ‘a production of the highest level in every aspect’. Francesca Ascioti (mezzo), Rupert Enticknap (countertenor), Federico Sacchi (bass), Francesca Lombardi Mazzulli (soprano), Accademia Bizantina; Ottavio Dantone. 16:9 widescreen. NTSC all regions. DTS 5.1 or PCM 2.0 stereo. 164 min.
