Description: Everything here is quite well-known except the Klaviermusik, which was only discovered among the papers of its dedicatee, Paul Wittgenstein's, wife after her death in 2002 and was first recorded just four years ago by Ondine (coupled with the Dvorak 9th, which, at full price, didn't help sales!). Written in 1923, in single-movement form but in four sections lasting 19 minutes, it is a fine example of the young, firebrand Hindemith (after all, the operas Mörder, Hoffnung der Frauen, Das Nusch-Nuschi and Sancta Susanna all came from 1921 and 1922) - energetic, ostinato-driven at times, bright and sharp-edged. 2 CDs. Idil Biret (piano), Yale Symphony Orchestra; Toshiyuki Shimada.
