ZYGMUNT STOJOWSKI (1870-1946): Cello Sonata, Op. 18, ALEXANDER TANSMAN (1897-1986): Cello Sonata, WITOLD SZALONEK (1927-2001): Cello Sonata, JERZY BAUER (b.1936): Sonata in One Movement
Catalogue Number: 01I051
Description: To go with the violin sonatas we offered years ago on the Acte Préalable label, we now have Stojowski's sonata from 1895, as warm and lyrical as the former (and his piano concerto for that matter). The 20th century works are just as approachable in their different ways, with Tansman (1930) elegant and lyrical in a warm, yet neo-classical manner, Szalonek (1958) making use of sonorism to accent his still broadly tonal and dramatic language and Bauer (1982) offering a terse, very dramatic and tension-filled seven-minute piece. Michal Dmochowski (cello), Graham Jackson (piano).
