Description: The first of Huber's chamber music to make it to disc, these piano quintets will be required items for the shelves of all lovers of Romantic chamber music. Although their opus numbers are close, the pieces themselves aren't and are quite different. No. 1 was begun as early as 1886, finished five years later but only published in 1896. It is full of the red-blooded Romanticism and surging emotions of a young man whose principal objects of admiration were Mendelssohn and Brahms. The second quintet dates from 1902 and has a much more airy, relaxed character, sometimes in its colorful and subtle sound world coming close to Impressionism. The work was suggested by a nature poem by Gottfried Keller and its effect is that of outdoor heartiness and love of nature. A Swiss Dvorák? Aura Quartet, Hans Joerg Fink (piano).
