GIOACHINO ROSSINI (1792-1868): Mosè in Egitto

Description: This is the original, 1819 Naples version of a work which is otherwise known practically exclusively in either its 1822 French version or its later Italian "re-translation". A bit shorter, tauter in action, the orchestration is often quite striking and there are little homages to Haydn's The Creation (which Rossini had conducted) in the first act. The 1992 Philips recording is out of print, so this is the only game in town. 2 CDs. Libretto available on-line.
