Description: Great notes to the orchestral disc by composer Harold Truscott, carefully explaining why, especially on the evidence of the Swedish Air variations of 1904, Hurlstone's early death deprived England of an important symphonist. The composer's abilities as a pianist were equalled in his piano writing and the two chamber works on the second disc (1904 and, for the trio, a posthumous 1907 publication) show an equally important aspect of the man Vaughan Williams called "the English Schubert".
