Description: Suddenly it's Liszt song time! With two complete cycles just begun on Marsyas and Hyperion, we now get this enterprising release which offers all the various versions of five songs. Some are not significantly different from each other (at least if they are in three versions, two may be rather similar but the third more different) but the late version of the Petrarch Sonnets completely strips away the bel canto, nocturne-like quality of the early version and with piano or voice often ending in solitary recitatives, one recognizes the spare, somber personality of the 70-year-old Liszt. Italian, German, French-English texts. Bernadett Wiedemann (mezzo), Szabolcs Brickner (tenor), Emese Virág (piano).
