Description: Yes, hard to believe, but there is still World Premiere Bruckner out there, and not just in the Ninth's finale. This is the first-ever recording of the intermediate version between Hermann Levi's rejection for performance of the 1887 original version and the 1890 "final" version most often heard today. Carragan's relatively succinct notes point out all the differences - and there are differences in every movement although the Adagio will be the most different-sounding. And then, there's the coupling: a 17-minute funeral march and trio written for the 10th anniversary of Bruckner's death in 1906 by a father-and-son pair (who is responsible for what is not quite clear), the father of whom taught Bruckner composition and orchestration beginning in late 1861. The manuscripts are apparently still in the possession of the Kitzler family and the score and parts never went into print, so the conductor here has re-orchestrated it from the two-piano version. Needless to say, this is also a World Premiere Recording. 2 CDs. Philharmonie Festiva; Gerd Schaller.
