Description: Bodorová conceived her trio (2001) while working on her oratorio Judas Maccabeus and continued her exploration of technical aspects of Jewish music, producing an archaic-tinged, rhythmically dynamic pair of outer movements surrounding a slower central one. Fiala's 1980 trio is a four-movement work of 14 minutes which is often neo-classically playful while also containing the Shostakovichian influences works from this period inevitably do. Eben's trio, playfully suggesting modernist atonality before settling into delicate, frayed lyricism, Ivesian multi-layered texturing and, in its last movement, reminiscences of 20s and 30s jazz, appeared on Hyperion (09M081) a bit over three years ago.
