Description: All three of Jongen's works are early (1898 for the Fantasia, 1900 for the concerto and 1901) and the composer's mature voice is not present yet. Franck is the most obvious influence in the 31-minute concerto, both in terms of structure and general mien although the young Jongen's personal lyricism is to the fore in the slow movement. Lazzari's 1922 Rapsodie, therefore, is the most mature and personal work here, its 17 minutes full of a warm lyrical voice and post-Wagnerian nobility. Philippe Graffin (violin), Royal Flemish Philharmonic; Martyn Brabbins.
