Description: Schein's position in the tradition of the Leipzig "town musicians" is the basis of this release, only five of whose fifteen tracks are vocal. He was responsible not only for sacred music but for the town-employed brass and string players who also performed secular music. Thus we have motets and instrumental pieces based on chorales which are in the severe Lutheran style as well as instrumental pieces in dance mode both from Schein and from his contemporaries and successors. German-English texts. Alice Foccroulle, Béatrice Mayo-Felip (soprano), Reinoud Van Mechelen (tenor), InAlto; Lambert Colson.
