ALESSANDRO STRADELLA (1639-1682): Qual prodigio è ch'io miri?, Lasciate ch'io respiri, Sonata a 8 viole con una tromba.
Catalogue Number: 01Q016
Reference: GB 2474-2
Description: These two serenatas, for unknown occasions and of unknown date, show more and less elaborate forms of Stradella's treatment of the genre. Qual prodigio has three vocalists (two men and one woman discussing the best means of amorous pursuit) accompanied by concertino and concerto grosso string bodies while Lasciate uses a smaller, undivided body on strings. Each, though, is just under a half hour in length. The seven-minute sonata is essentially a concerto combining concerto with concerto grosso forms. Italian-English texts. Alessandro Stradella Consort; Estevan Velardi.
